🔹 Lesson Explanation

In this lesson, you will learn how to read four-letter Arabic words that include a Sukoon (ـْ). This builds directly on what you learned in Lessons 3 and 4.

By now, you understand:

  • Basic vowels:
    • Fatha ( ـَ ) → “a”
    • Kasrah ( ـِ ) → “i”
    • Dhammah ( ـُ ) → “u”
  • Sukoon ( ـْ ) → silence or rest
    • The letter with Sukoon has NO vowel.
    • It is pronounced immediately after the previous vowel.

Now we combine everything into four-letter words, which helps build real reading fluency.

📚 Understanding the Structure of 4-Letter Words

Four-letter words often follow these patterns:

Pattern 1: Vowel – Sukoon – Vowel – Sukoon

Examples:

  • بَ نْ دَ رْبَنْدَرْ
  • دَ فْ تَ رْدَفْتَرْ
  • خَ لْ قَ تْخَلْقَتْ

In this pattern:

  1. Letter 1 has a vowel
  2. Letter 2 has a Sukoon
  3. Letter 3 has a vowel
  4. Letter 4 has a Sukoon

You read smoothly through the vowels and stop slightly on each Sukoon.

Pattern 2: Vowel – Sukoon – Vowel – Vowel

Examples:

  • بَ نْ دَ رُبَنْدَرُ
  • مَ نْ تَ رُمَنْتَرُ
  • صَ فْ دَ رُصَفْدَرُ

Here the last letter has a vowel, so the word ends with a light sound rather than a stop.
