⭐ 1. Lesson Explanation

What Does It Mean to Join Letters?

In Arabic, letters change their shape when they attach to another letter. The shape depends on the letter’s position:

  1. Beginning of a word – connected on the right.
  2. Middle of a word – connected on both sides.
  3. End of a word – connected only on the left.

This lesson focuses on joining only two letters for the first time.

How to Read Two Joined Letters

You read them one after the other, each with its vowel.

Example: بَهَ

  • First letter: بَ = ba
  • Second letter: هَ = ha
  • Joined reading: ba-ha

Another example: بُهُ

  • بُ = bu
  • هُ = hu
  • Full reading: bu-hu

⭐ Why Are the Letters Changing Shape?

Arabic letters have up to four shapes:

  • Isolated (individual)
  • Beginning form
  • Middle form
  • Ending form

Example using the letter ب:

  • Isolated: ب
  • Initial: بـ
  • Medial: ـبـ
  • Final: ـب

When you see combinations like بَهَ, the بـ is in the beginning form, while ـهَ is in the ending form.

⭐ 2. Practice With Provided Examples

Below is a full breakdown of your provided examples with pronunciation:

  1. بَهَ = ba-ha

بَ (ba) + هَ (ha)

  1. بُهُ = bu-hu

بُ + هُ

  1. بِهَ = bi-ha

بِ + هَ

  1. بُهِ = bu-hi

بُ + هِ

  1. بَهُ = ba-hu

بَ + هُ

  1. بَةُ = ba-tu

Note: ة (tā’ marbūṭa) at the end is pronounced t when connected.
So: بَ (ba) + ةُ (tu)
